Troubleshooting U-Rite Add-In Installation Issues

Users often run into installation issues when setting up the U-Rite Add-In for the first time. These problems can stem from missing Windows components, corporate security policies, outdated software, or files becoming blocked during download.

This guide compiles the most common installation error—when the U-Rite tab does not appear—and provides clear steps to help you complete your installation successfully.

Problem: U-Rite Tab Does Not Appear on the Excel Ribbon

This is the most common issue users face:
The U-Rite tab does not appear on the Excel Ribbon after installation.

Step 1: Confirm U-Rite Installed Successfully

  1. Check Programs and Features
    • Open Control Panel.
    • Go to Programs > Programs and Features.
    • Verify that U-Rite appears in the list of installed programs.

If U-Rite is not listed, the installation did not complete successfully and should be re-run.

Step 2: Temporarily Disable Anti-Virus (If Allowed)

Anti-virus software can sometimes prevent the U-Rite installer from correctly setting required registry keys.

  • Temporarily disable all anti-virus software before running the installer again, if your IT/security policy allows it.
  • Alternatively, contact your IT Administrator to:
    • Review security logs.
    • Approve or whitelist the U-Rite installer.
    • Assist with installation under managed security policies.

U-Rite Support is happy to work directly with your IT team to help resolve these issues.

Step 3: Close All Excel Instances

Before adjusting add-ins:

  1. Save your work in Excel.
  2. Open Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc).
  3. Under the Processes tab, close all instances of:
    • EXCEL.exe

This ensures no background Excel processes interfere with add-in loading.

Step 4: Verify COM Add-In Settings in Excel

  1. Open Excel.
  2. Go to File > Options.
  3. Select Add-ins from the left-hand menu.
  4. At the bottom, next to Manage, select COM Add-ins from the dropdown.
  5. Click Go.

Then:

  • If U-Rite appears in the COM Add-ins list:

    • Ensure there is a check mark beside U-Rite.
    • Click OK and restart Excel to see if the U-Rite tab appears.
  • If U-Rite does not appear under COM Add-ins:

    • Change the Manage dropdown to Disabled Items.
    • Click Go.
    • If U-Rite appears in Disabled Items, select it and click Enable.
    • Restart Excel and check the ribbon again.

If the Issue Persists

If you have:

  • Confirmed that U-Rite is installed in Programs and Features
  • Verified COM Add-in settings
  • Checked for Disabled Items
  • Temporarily disabled anti-virus (where allowed)

…but the U-Rite tab still does not appear:
